Lee and I met in 2013 and quickly became an item, marrying soon after. We have SIX children between us ranging in ages from 15 to 22, so everyone should come eat and drink with us so we can pay for their college tuition. We keep pushing them to go to culinary or bartending school or something where we can put them right to work, but they all want to be teachers, doctors and nurses. Go figure.
Lee worked in television and for three fortune 100 companies (including the world’s largest soft drink manufacturer and the big orange home improvement chain, both based in Atlanta – you know who they are). But he opened his own consulting company in 2014 with a global clientele. I was a teacher in corporate education but also worked in and managed bars and restaurants in the southeast for many years. Lee drank and ate in many bars and restaurants around the world. Can you put that on a resume? Lee’s dream was to open a bar in Key West, FL and I know how to make it happen. But that’s a long commute – a really long commute. So, we did the next best thing and opened one close to home.
I have a passion for healthy eating (mainly because I’m allergic to everything) so the idea of having a place that serves some organic, non-GMO, gluten, soy, and dairy-free items was really just so we’d have a place to go out and eat. Basically, we opened the kind of place we’d like to hang out in. While there are great restaurants in Acworth, many don’t cater to food allergies, which can be a challenge. And who doesn’t love a great outdoor deck, especially in the Spring and Fall?
So, we opened BRIX to share with all of you the things we love. A laid-back atmosphere to relax, have real conversations and meet new people. A fantastic deck with views of the sunset. An amazing historical building with character and charm. Great customer service from our staff. And healthy but yummy small plate food that is made from scratch using fresh natural ingredients. We have lots of plans for events, expanding the menu, and tweaking the bar choices in the future and absolutely want our customers to tell us what they want and enjoy.
We ask that you be a little patient as we get get up to speed in the early days. And please let use know what we can do better, so this can truly become a place where everyone wants to spend time.
We hope you’ll come by and check us out.
